Our Mission:

Enabling digitally enhanced research

We are the national hub for the development and application of domain overarching software and methods for the scientific community.

We develop bridges between the ambitions of scientists from across all disciplines and the increasingly complex modern e-infrastructures.

The application of digitally enhanced scientific practices, referred to as eScience, is a fundamental toolbox for all researchers and is a prerequisite to ensure the Dutch knowledge sector remains competitive and the greatest return can be achieved from scientific investments.

In support of this goal we fund and participate in multidisciplinary projects with academia. Our core expertises are in the fields of optimized data handling, efficient computing and big-data analytics at their core.

In 2015 we developed our strategy for the coming years, which you can download here: Netherlands eScience Center Strategy 2015-2020.

The eScience Center is a joint initiative of the Dutch national research council (NWO) and the Dutch organisation for ICT in education and research (SURF).
