Empowering researchers in the social sciences through digital technology

In this call, the ODISSEI (Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations) and the Netherlands eScience Center invite scientists employed at an ODISSEI member organization, whose main area of expertise is in the social sciences, to submit a proposal.

Purpose

This call for proposals supports researchers in the social sciences who expect to benefit from the application or development of digital technologies and research software, but who need additional expertise in applying these methods.

When to apply

The deadline for the proposal is now extended to 14 October 2022, 14:00 CEST.

Free consultancy

Interested applicants can register for a free individual one-hour consultancy meeting with an eScience Center expert and an ODISSEI SoDA team member. Prior to a consultancy meeting and proposal submission, applicants are encouraged to attend the online information event.

In this meeting, we can discuss the research questions, suitable technological solutions, the viability of the approach, and the match with the eScience Center expertise. Please indicate, in the registration form, the discussion topic(s) so that we can connect you with the best suited RSEs. We advise all applicants to attend the online information event before registering for a consultancy meeting.

Applicants can register for this free consultancy meeting using this form.

Researchers interested in this call are also invited to contact the ODISSEI SoDA team to discuss their project ideas and look at the data related to the prospective project (separately or at SoDa Data Drop-in sessions). The ODISSEI SoDA team can be contacted at

Other call opportunities

Next to the Open ODISSEI eScience Center call for free research software engineer (RSE) time, additional funding is available in our Open SSI for Social Science and Open SSI for Humanities calls.

What’s the difference?

Social science researchers who require support to build research software or digital tooling to answer their research problem can now pick one of the two routes. If a project is a bit smaller in scale, they are welcome to apply for the Open ODISSEI eScience Center call, which offers researchers affiliated with an ODISSEI member organisation three months of RSE time. In total, five grants are available. If the project requires a much larger time investment, the researchers can apply for one of our Open SSI calls, which entails RSE support for nine months (with six grants available). In both tracks, the applicants can propose research that makes use and expands on the existing ODISSEI facilities.
