The Netherlands eScience Center is looking for an enthusiastic Scientific web application developer (m/f)

The position

The person we are looking for has a history of developing rich and complex web applications. You will operate in a dynamic and challenging scientific environment and will be responsible for the translation of scientific questions into visualizations and web applications. Also you will develop high quality software and ensure that it can be used easily by both developers and scientists. We work as a close team, creatively combining and sharing knowledge between projects. It is likely that you will work part time at the eScience Center and part time at a university or research institute participating in collaborative projects.

We require

  • Higher general secondary education (HBO) or academic level (obtained through education, training and/or experience), possibly with a master degree;
  • Experience with developing web applications and visualizations;
  • Experience in a scientific environment is an advantage;
  • Good software development skills (version control, unit testing, integration testing);
  • Experience with development of front-end web applications with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, JSON, REST, HTML, CSS;
  • Excellent command of English (both verbally and written).


  • Innovative: able to translate scientific questions from investigators into creative and modern web applications;
  • A critical and constructive attitude to contribute actively to eScience software infrastructure improvements;
  • Motivated, flexible, creative, initiative taking, independent but also a real team player;
  • Strong communication skills with an external orientation.

Working conditions

We offer a position at the eScience Center for a fixed period of 2 years within the collective agreement for Dutch Research Institutes (cao-OI). The candidate will be based at the Netherlands eScience Center in Amsterdam.

Classification is based on education and experience with salary depending on qualifications and experience, starting from € 2,743 up to € 4,154 gross per month, with a 38-hour working week (salary scale 9-10). Holiday pay amounts to 8% of the gross salary and we also offer a 13th month of salary as an end-of-year payment.
