July roundup – where has the eScience Center been this month?

The eScience Center has been actively engaging with the scientific community through various events and conferences, showcasing the impact we make through the application of research software. Check out what we’ve been up to this month!
#JuliaCon2024
JuliaCon is the largest annual conference organized around the Julia programming language. This year, the conference was held in Eindhoven on 9-13 July 2024. RSEs Abel Soares Siqueira, Luisa Orozco and Johan Hidding attended the event (pictured from left to right). Abel presented on the ‘Best practices for package development using BestieTemplate.jl’ and Johan presented Entangled, a generic tool for maintainable literate programming.
Another day, another paper published!
RSE Luisa Orozco, together with the research team in the Reservoir Engineering section at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences in TUDelft, published a software paper, ‘open Delft Advanced Research Terra Simulator (open-DARTS)’ in the Journal of Open Source Software (JOSS)!
The software, open-DARTS, is a simulator that enables researchers to model the flow of water, gas, CO2 and other substances, as well as the mechanical behavior of rock in underground reservoirs. This research is highly relevant in the context of energy transition, as open-DARTS can be used to simulate processes such as geothermal energy production, CO2 sequestration, and hydrogen storage. The software is utilized in academic settings for research and teaching, as well as in industry applications.
Who are we?
The eScience Center is a research organization dedicated to applying research software to answer research questions in any scientific domain through project collaborations. It has the largest concentration of dedicated, high-level research software expertise in the Netherlands. The eScience Center also has a Fellowship Programme and makes all of its software and training materials openly available online. For more information about what we offer, visit esciencecenter.nl
