After graduating in chemistry at the University of Antioquia, Colombia, Felipe obtained a Ph.D. in Computational Photochemistry from the University of Alcala de Henares, Spain. He developed and used computational tools to study the dynamics of molecules in the excited state in order to understand how light can trigger interesting molecular/quantomechanical properties. Since his Ph.D., Felipe has been developing software for scientific applications.
Felipe focuses on the implementation of numerical algorithms and workflows development for high-performance computing using languages like Python, C++, Rust, and Fortran. His fields of expertise are computational chemistry and materials science.
Felipe joined the eScience Center as a research engineer in September 2017.
