Integrating Quantum Computers into a Radio Telescope

Radio astronomy relies on abundant and affordable computing capacity. We are rapidly approaching physical limitations that inhibit the continued growth of conventional technology. Revolutionary new technologies are therefore needed. The most radical of the new technologies currently in development is quantum computing.

What are we trying to achieve and how?

Although quantum initiatives are receiving heavy investments in general, many of them focus on the development of the base technologies, instead of on their applicability in data-intensive science. A complete rethink of the processing is required for algorithms used in radio astronomy to map directly onto quantum computers.
