Transparency in the Netherlands’ Nonprofit Sector

The contribution of philanthropic activities to positive societal change is unclear because we have little data about philanthropic organizations. This project uses computational social science tools to enable research on, and offer insight into, the transparency and outcomes of the activities of philanthropic organizations in the Netherlands.

What are we trying to achieve and how?

We describe the contributions of philanthropic organizations to the Sustainable Development Goals, the diversity of the boards of philanthropic organizations, the network of relationships among philanthropic organizations, and their relationships with networks of corporations.

To do so, we provide a publicly available database on the activities of audited and approved philanthropic organizations, including data on contributions to Sustainable Development Goals, financial data and organizational identifiers that allow interlinking with other datasets.
