Senior Research Software Engineer

Dr. Kody Moodley

Kody Moodley obtained his PhD in Computer Science jointly from the University of Manchester and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2016. His PhD focused on developing algorithms for automated reasoning about knowledge represented in the Web Ontology Language (OWL). In 2017, Kody moved to the Institute of Data Science at Maastricht University as a postdoctoral researcher where his work focused on the application of ontologies, Semantic Web technologies such as OWL and RDF, Data Integration and Knowledge Graphs to represent and reason with information in the biomedical and legal domains. In particular, Kody used NLP, Machine Learning and Network Analysis to extract and analyse knowledge from medical drug labels and court case proceedings.

In 2020, Kody was a principal investigator on an NWO project to develop a suite of software to semi-automate the construction, visualisation and analysis of a knowledge graph containing information on 18,000 EU companies and their movements across national borders to study its effect on EU workers.

Kody joined the Netherlands eScience Center as a Senior Research Software Engineer in the Social Sciences & Humanities Section in April 2022.
