Research Software Engineer
Dr. Leon Oostrum
Leon has a PhD in radio astronomy from the University of Amsterdam and the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON), where he focused on finding fast radio transients with the upgraded Westerbork radio telescope in Drenthe, the Netherlands. He built a data acquisition and real-time analysis pipeline for the high time resolution backend of the telescope, followed by its commissioning and finally the discovery of the first radio transients with the upgraded telescope.
After a postdoc at ASTRON to continue working with the Westerbork telescope, Leon joined the Netherlands eScience Center in February of 2021, where he developed an interest in explainable AI and GPU computing.
Leon also has a teacher’s degree in physics, and is involved in teaching and lesson development within the Netherlands eScience Center.
