Research Software Engineer
Dr. Lucas Esclapez
Lucas Esclapez is a Research Software Engineer in the Natural Science & Engineering Section working on high-performance and GPU computing for the Atlantic Ocean Circulation modelling.
Lucas obtained his PhD in Fluid Mechanics from INP Toulouse, France in 2015 where he studied high altitude relight of aeronautical gas turbines using high fidelity simulations. The same year, he joined the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford University to investigate the effects of sustainable aviation fuels on gas turbine operability. In 2016, he joined the CERFACS, Toulouse, France to further expand his research interest in reactive flows simulations. In 2018, he moved back to the United States to join the Berkeley Lab, where he developed algorithms to couple reactive flows with weak plasma, eventually taking over the development of the PeleLMeX software under the umbrella of the ExaScale Computing Project, while transitioning to the National Renewable Energy Lab in 2021.
Lucas joined the Netherlands eScience Center as a Research Software Engineer in the Natural Science & Engineering Section in July 2023.
