Section Head, Life Sciences

Dr. Michiel Punt

Michiel has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a master’s degree in Human Movement Sciences. He received his PhD in Neuromechanics from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he used sensors and timeseries analysis to develop methods to quantify human gait stability. In 2017 he continued his research at the same University as a postdoctoral fellow mainly working on a EU HORIZON 2020 project.

In 2020 he started working as a project leader and senior researcher at the Hogeschool Utrecht. The research projects mainly focused on deriving useful information from sensors and representing this information through a user-friendly web application. Along the way of his research projects the use of deep learning techniques to make sense of sensor data got a more eminent role.

In September 2022 Michiel joined the eScience Center as Section Head for Life Sciences.
