Research Software Engineer

Dr. Héctor Cadavid Rengifo

Hector has a bachelor’s degree in computer and systems engineering from the University Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería (UECI) and a master’s degree in the same field from the National University of Colombia (UNAL). His career path has primarily been within academia, intertwining teaching and research projects, with the latter covering a wide variety of domains and disciplines, such as autonomous systems/robotics, e-health, smart farming, and more. These projects involved cooperation with multiple research groups, including GIMECI, ECITRONICA, CTG-Informática, and NASA–LFM (Langley Formal Methods).

He earned a Ph.D. degree in software engineering from the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) for his research on the cross-disciplinary architecting of large-scale systems-of-systems, where large-scale radio-astronomy instruments were the main study subject. During this academic pursuit, between 2018 and 2022, he contributed as a member of the SEARCH (Software Engineering and Architecture) research group of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at this institution.

In December 2022, he joined the Netherlands eScience Center as a Research Software Engineer in the Life Sciences area.
