Section Head, Life Sciences

Pablo Lopez-Tarifa

Pablo Lopez-Tarifa obtained his PhD in Theoretical Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where his research focused on understanding biological damage to genetic material induced by swift ions, such as those used in hydron therapies.

In 2011, he joined the Laboratoire de Chimie et Biochimie Computationnelles (LCBC) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, developing theoretical methodologies to describe excited-state dynamics of systems exposed to extremely intense ultrashort light pulses.

In 2015, he moved to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, working across the departments of Theoretical Chemistry and Biophysics within the Solardam consortium to study light absorption in natural chromophores and their application in bio-solar cell devices. In 2017, he joined the Spanish Research Council’s Centro de Física de Materiales (CFM-CSIC), collaborating closely with Simune Atomistic Co. to improve and extend parallel codes for materials-science research.

Pablo joined the Netherlands eScience Center in 2019 as a Research Software Engineer, later becoming Programme Manager for Life Sciences. Since April 2025, he serves as the Life Sciences Section Head, leading the strategic, technical, and community development of the domain within the Center.
