Research Software Engineer
Sander van Rijn, MSc.
Sander has a background in Computer Science from Leiden University in the Netherlands, where he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and is finalizing his PhD. Starting with his master, he specialized in evolutionary algorithms. For his PhD, he works on optimization algorithms that aim to combine input from different accuracy levels of expensive simulation problems using machine learning techniques.
Sander has published a few Python packages for (evolutionary) optimization. He is furthermore interested in data analysis, data visualization, and speeding up (high performance) applications.
Sander joined the eScience Center in December 2022 as a Research Software Engineer in the Environment and Sustainability section.
