Interactive charts can be very useful for scientists. Especially when they can run these from their web browser.

D3.js (or just D3 for Data-Driven Documents) is a JavaScript library for producing dynamic, interactive data visualizations in web browsers. D3.js can be used for simple bar charts, network graph or geospatial visualizations. This flexibility makes in applicable in any scientific domain. D3 has great documentation and many examples and plugins.

We have used D3 for example in eEcology within an annotation tool, to visualize all measurements of a gps tracker. In the eMetabolomics project we have used D3 to visualize the mass spectras in the MAGMa tool (http://www.emetabolomics.org/).
