November roundup – where has the eScience Center been this month?

The eScience Center has been actively engaging with the scientific community through various events and conferences, showcasing the impact we make through the application of research software. Check out what we’ve been up to this month!

Fellowship Day 2024

This month, we hosted our second annual Fellowship Day, a gathering of current and former Fellows designed to foster collaboration, innovation and learning. The event provided a platform for Fellows to showcase their projects, exchange ideas and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

In the afternoon, mentors from the eScience Center joined the discussions, offering guidance to their mentees and thinking along how to create as much visibility and impact as possible for their projects. The success of this day underscored the strength and impact of our Fellowship Programme

Inspiring the next generation of researchers

The training team at the eScience Center contributed to the Boost Your Skills Day at Radboud University with a hands-on workshop on efficient coding practices, focused on using GitHub and Git. Designed to empower researchers and students, the session focused on techniques to write clean, efficient and reproducible code, crucial for tackling complex research challenges. Participants explored practical tools and strategies to streamline their workflows and enhance the reliability of their computational work. The interactive format encouraged collaboration and sparked insightful discussions on improving coding efficiency in academic settings. It was an inspiring day of skill-building and knowledge-sharing!

Workshop and consortium meeting with HybridLabs

The eScience Center played a pivotal role in hosting the second consortium meeting for the HybridLabs project, a NWO project with 37 partners focused on accelerating innovations in offshore renewable energy using data-driven approaches. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions and updates.

Advancing Climate Simulations

This month, we joined the kickoff meeting for ESiWACE3 in Hamburg, the third phase of the Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe. ESiWACE3 focuses on advancing high-performance computing for more accurate and efficient weather and climate simulations. As the eScience Center, we’ll contribute by enhancing research software and computational workflows to support the project’s ambitious goals. Check out the Research Software Directory for more information.

Who are we?

The eScience Center is a research organization dedicated to applying research software to answer research questions in any scientific domain through project collaborations. It has the largest concentration of dedicated, high-level research software expertise in the Netherlands. The eScience Center also has a Fellowship Programme and makes all of its software and training materials openly available online. For more information about what we offer, visit esciencecenter.nl.
